Searching for unexploded ordnance in Breskens

BODAC B.V. was searching for unexploded ordnance (UXO) at Breskens. Contractor Rijkswaterstaat is responsible for the design, construction, management and maintenance of the main infrastructure facilities in the Netherlands. This includes the main road network, the main waterway network and watersystems.

Currents and waves cause erosion of the foreshore in the Oosterschelde and the Westerschelde. The flood defences endangers by further erosion. The stability of these (primary) flood defenses provides a bank protection construction. These construction needed to be strengthened.

Following the UXO risk profile where significant uxo suspicious objects mapped. conducted a research with divers on detection locations Breskens and Burghsluis.

In total there were 71 objects detected as possible uxo hazards.
